In my work I have concentrated on making unique ceramic wall pieces that combine three-dimensional forms with richly glazed surfaces. I am engaged in an ongoing search to imbue my work with beauty. My most recent pieces are influenced by cosmology, randomness, chance and the dynamic between order and chaos. My work continues to be inspired by nature, particularly the atmospheric moods of landscapes both natural and urban. I am fascinated by the variety of subtle effects that can be achieved with glazes and continue to research new possibilities.
The work is made from glazed white earthenware and porcelain. Each piece is hand cast from a plaster mould that is made from a hand formed model. The surface treatments range from spraying and brushing layers of glazes, to sgraffito, inlay and fusing metals to the surface in the firings.
Karin Schösser lives and works in London.
